Dr. Stimers | Dissertation Coaching
Dr. Mitch Stimers focuses on coaching, editing, and analytics. Beginning with his undergraduate work in computer science, geography, political science, and anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and continuing through a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science (GISc), an M.A., and a Ph.D. in geography at Kansas State University, Dr. Stimers’ focus in academia has been on geography, information management, and analysis, statistics, physical science, and cultural studies for over 20 years. His 2011 doctoral dissertation won the Jeanne X. Kasperson Award for Emerging Scholars in Hazards Research from the American Association of Geographers. He assists students in both qualitative and quantitative dissertations, as well as mixed-methods approaches.
An active researcher, Mitch has published numerous articles on topics including basic and advanced spatial and tabular analysis and modeling, multi-criteria decision analysis, rule-set prediction, the analytic hierarchical process (AHP), data clustering methods, composite index development, and principal components analysis. In 2021, the Encyclopedia of Natural Disasters was published, featuring eight articles written by him.
He completed hundreds of internal statistical analyses, reports, and white papers on educational topics as an institutional researcher and provided grant writing and data analysis support for internal and external grants (including three successful TRIO grants). Mitch brings expert-level knowledge of the industry-standard IBM SPSS environment and SQL data retrieval and custom dataset cleaning, coding, construction, and modeling to the team. Survey design and implementation expertise in obtaining additional information for regression analysis, modeling, and other techniques complement his data analysis skills.
Professionally trained as a geographer, Mitch is also well-versed in ESRI’s Arc platform (GIS) and can produce custom maps and spatial analysis products from Internet-based GIS data or custom-build a spatial dataset through the process of geocoding tabular data or the use of GPS-derived data.
